about

On Again Off Again (OAOA) began in 2008, when lead singer Mike Winegardner teamed up with Amanda Townsend of The Like Young to record a recent batch of his songs. They were the products of quiet heartbreak, mental wandering, and a lust for pop music. A year later and still wandering, Mike moved to Chicago and found his former high school jazz band friends, Ryan Davisson, Brian Houze, and Dan Gray. The addition of Davisson gave the band an additional songwriter, and the group soon began writing new music for Acres, crafting miniature pop odysseys and sending Winegardners’s hazy love songs farther into the mist. Recorded by Daniel Good (Light Pollution, Dr. Manhattan) at the wooded Chrome Attic studios, Acres harnesses tones from the 60’s and is layered in spindly arpeggios reminiscent of recent Radiohead, the perfect compliment to the warm deliveries of Winegardner and Davisson. Bringing their candid song approach to meandering arrangements akin to those of Grizzly Bear; Acres is a vast forest environment to explore, with familiar pop pathways to bring you home.
