When Matt Evert finished months of touring with Light Pollution, he retreated to suburban Chicago to help his mother sell the house he grew up in. He spent his days in the attic, discovering and dusting off childhood relics, only to neatly pack them all away. At night, an inspired Evert took to the garage, where he let his voice ring out, memorializing his bittersweet visions of childhood in song.
Thus was born Barber Greene, the latest in a long line of musical obsessions for Evert. When his house sold, Evert sought out further refuge in basements and garages, living week to week and recording with musical kindred spirits. Formerly a vocal performance major at Northern Illinois University, the drummer of Light Pollution, and the veteran of many high school garage outfits; Matt enlisted his many friends to help his new collection of songs come to life. Evert dubbed this rambling period of creation and collection "Lion Living", which eventually became the title of his debut 7" single, released May 29, 2012, on Yes Club Records. On August 13, 2013, Evert released digital single "Guyana" b/w "Dream Freak" via Public House Recordings.
Barber Greene's full length debut record, Takes, is out August 12, 2014 via Yes Club Records. Release festivities are set for Friday, August 22, at Township in Chicago.
